Privacy laws protecting individual’s personal information are in effect for our business. Orchard View Living Centre has adopted a Confidentiality and Privacy Policy that is the basis of our commitment to protect the privacy of individual’s personal information. Our policy establishes certain standards with regard to how we handle personal information of our residents, employees and any others in contact with our business.
As employees of Orchard View Living Centre we must follow the Orchard View Living Centre Confidentiality and Privacy Policy and any guidelines, which may be applicable in your area.
Our Responsibilities include:
- Handling individual’s personal information (for example, a person’s medical status, and date of birth, social security number, home address and financial information) in a manner that ensures confidentiality, accuracy and security of the information.
- Ensuring that, a general rule, you may only use an individual’s personal information for the purposes that we identify and consented to by that individual when they disclose the information to our business. This consent may be expressed or implied, depending on the circumstances.
- Ensuring that only the people who need to know have access to the personal information. This means that only those employees who require access to the personal information in order to do their job should be handling the information. If you are unsure who should have access to certain information, seek approval from your director.
- Keeping personal information safe and secure and not left out for others to see.
- Destroying personal information appropriately once its use has been fulfilled and there is no other reason to keep it. Appropriate destruction means it should be shredded or appropriately deleted if it is an electronic document.
In summary, our Confidentiality and Privacy Policy endeavors to ensure that any individual’s personal information is protected and appropriately handled. If there is a concern or inquiry regarding our Confidentiality and Privacy Policy or our privacy practices the individual should be directed to call the executive director at extension 408 or by email at: director@orchardviewlivingcentre.ca.
